Sunglasses : Not just an Accessory

It is very true that sunglasses are a great accessory; sometimes all it takes is a great pair of sunglasses to lead a plain outfit from drab to fabulous. Not to mention that a stellar pair of sunglasses can take an already wonderful outfit from fabulous to fantastic. They are also great to cover the fact that you’ve been partying all night. If you are a celebrity, sunglasses are the best way to shield your ayes from the bright flashes of the Paparazzo’s cameras. If you want to add a sense of mystique to your persona, or simply want to feel like a rock star, sunglasses can be a simple way to get there. However, sunglasses are not just an accessory. They be expressions of form but they most certainly serve a function as well.

It has been proven that exposure of the eyes to the sunlight’s harmful UV and UB rays are agents in causing age related macular degeneration (AMD) and cataracts. Sugnlasses usually block out 97-100% of these UV and UB rays thus protecting your eyes from the potential harm, not to mention that they also protect the skin around your eyes from sun damage related wrinkles and signs of aging.

Sunglasses also serve as a barrier between your eyes and the wind and any debris that it might bring with it. Debris in your eyes could scratch your retinas therefore causing damage to your sight, They also are an agent to reducing and eliminating eye strain and headaches. Since our pupils adjust according to the amount of light reaching them, sunglasses help block out excessive light. Excessive light can lead to one squinting that eventually causes eyestrain and them head aches.

Sunglasses are a great addition to any wardrobe. There are many reasons why sunglasses can and should be worn. In fact, many believe that sunglasses are a must have, it doesn’t really matter what they look like, where you bought them, how much they cost or what label they carry, the most important thing is that you are keeping your eyes safe, and there’s no better way to do that than to wear a pair of stellar sunglasses.

Aviator Sunglasses

One of the most popular and well known designs of sunglasses is probably the Aviator. Aviator Sunglasses are actually the first design ever made by Bausch and Lomb, founders of Ray-Ban. The spectacles were first designed for pilots thus getting the name “Aviator”. They are known by their dark, often reflective lenses, their area being two or three times wider than the actual eye socket. The frames are either metal and have bayonet earpieces or cable temples that are flexible and hook behind the ears.

Originally Aviator sunglasses had G-20 tempered lenses made of glass. The main purpose is to block out as much light from entering as possible.

General Douglas MacArthur first iconized the sunglasses by donning a pair as he landed on the Philippine shores during the Second World War

Despite being around since the 1960’s, only in the 1980’s did the trend really pick up. This is because celebrities such as Michael Jackson started donning them as they went out and about town. It was then that they really became a trend with people wanting to wear them left and right just like their favorite stars. Pretty soon, wearing the famous Aviator style sunglasses became an in thing amongst movies that wanted to present a certain status or “cool” factor.  Top Gun featuring movie stars such as Val Kilmer and Tom Cruise wearing Aviators only boosted its popularity. Even with the introduction of other styles the aviator remains to be a classic.

These days there are so many styles of sunglasses to choose from, plastic frames are also a big trend.  Be they the big round lenses to tiny square lenses with shades and even shaped like guitars. They come in many different colors and patterns for both the frames and the lenses.

Sunglasses still remain a favorite accessory, not to mention the fact that they also protect your eyes from harmful rays from the sun. However, no matter how much time might
